Many ask why the choice to use virtual public education was made by our family. I have 5 children, 3 of whom are now out of school and 2 at the elementary level. I watched 2 of my older children, whom were quite bright, gradually loose their edge because no teacher would step up to challenge them. They were bored and unmotivated.

My youngest daughter later floundered in a class with behavior issues that were beyond my comprehension. The teacher readily admitted 30% of a day was spent on discipline. As I saw that, I could keep her home 1 1/2 days a week and she would miss NOTHING.

Upon hearing a radio announcement and reading about this pioneering way of education, we knew it could only be better than the status quo. So, we attended various seminars and knew we had found what we were looking for.

This internet-based public school has been an educational bonanza for our family. The partnership we have developed with our teachers has made this educational choice very simple. My children are allowed to work at the level they are at. They no longer spend 30 minutes waiting for the rest of the class to finish. Wasted time is a thing of the past. The challenge is set forth each day by the fully provided curriculum and each day it is totally absorbed.

It is my hope and prayer that Wisconsin keeps this option available to parents. It is an awesome way of learning that needs to remain for those who choose to use it. Virtual schools, in this case a real public education, is making a difference in many children's lives- let it remain so.
