New Schools and Open Enrollment
That time of year is right around the corner

January 7, 2009

Public Virtual Charter Schools continue to grow in popularity and support.

It appears that McFarland School District will be the latest district to offer a public virtual school option for WI families.

According to this article the District is working on a partnership with K12, the online learning company that has operated the Wisconsin Virtual Academy, to offer a public virtual charter school for students in grades K-12. The board is scheduled to have a final vote on the measure in early February, which means WI families will have yet another virtual school option during this year's open enrollment.

We have also heard reports that, in Waukesha, iQ Academy is looking at adding a middle school option. So, how will these new schools impact the enrollment cap for Public Virtual Charter Schools? When exactly is the open enrollment period? How does open enrollment work?

The Coalition is putting together a sheet of Frequently Asked Questions regarding Open Enrollment and the Cap. We'll publish that document later this month, distribute it to Coalition members via an email similar to this, and keep it posted on the website as a reference.

Stay tuned!
