Guest column: Schools without walls are excited for new year, too

I can almost smell it in the air. No, it's not late-blooming flowers or sunblock; it's the excitement of back-to-school time in the Green Bay area. The aroma of freshly sharpened pencils, crisp construction paper and crayon wax soon will be filling many homes.
This can also be a time of anxiety for some. Kids are reluctant to trade late bedtimes for backpacks, and trade parents for teachers. Some parents are worried about scheduling day care and after-school activities, and purchasing all of those school supplies. Even teachers worry about being prepared for the first day of class.
